Alex Rodriguez's interview with Mike Francesa ended a little while ago and I am still sitting here in shock. It was amazing, it was cringeworthy, it was loud, it was amazing again and all the while, as I sat there and listened, I couldn't believe it was actually happening. In case you missed what happened today, A-Rod stormed out of the arbitration hearing this morning after arbitrator Fredric Horowitz ruled that Bud Selig didn't have to testify. Rodriguez called the hearing a farce and he, according to sources, yelled an expletive as he was leaving - depending on who you hear from, he either said, "This is bullsh*t!" or he told Rob Manfred, one of MLB's top executives that he was "full of sh*t." Whatever the case may be, Rodriguez was mad and he wasn't going to take it anymore.
Flash forward to this afternoon when A-Rod dropped by Mike Francesa's studio to appear on his show with one of his lawyers in tow - Not Joe Tacopino because he was simultaneously appearing on The Michael Kay Show. (This is also a soap opera within a soap opera because Kay and Francesa don't really get along and Kay has often complained about A-Rod's relationship with his WFAN rival.) Anyway, A-Rod went on Francesa's show and he went off.
He denied using PEDs and called Bud Selig out for ducking him on numerous occasions - including today. Actually, he went after Selig, who he referred to as 'the man from Milwaukee,' a lot. Rodriguez thinks Selig has a personal vendetta against him. He even went so far as to say of the commissioner, "He hates my guts," adding, "One hundred percent, this is personal." He also used a pretty clever analogy in regards to Selig's case against him, saying, "He's retiring in 2014 and to put me in his big mantle on the way out, that's a hell of a trophy."
Alex Rodriguez was heated and he was taking no prisoners in this interview. And yes, it was made a little easier for him by Francesa who likes A-Rod and enjoys having him on his show but I still couldn't believe he went on the radio and did this.
