Well, this is depressing. I thought I'd be okay with having a relaxing October but I realize now that I kind of thrive on the nerves and anxiety of playoff games and I will miss them a lot.
These are our final chances to see Mariano Rivera and Andy Pettitte pitch - Pettitte will make the final start of his career in Houston on Friday night - and it may be the last time we see some other guys like Phil Hughes, Joba Chamberlain, Curtis Granderson, Hiroki Kuroda and Robinson Cano. It's even possible we may not see Joe Girardi here next season.
Okay, I'll stop now because I'm making myself even more depressed.
The Rays are coming into this series having swept the Baltimore Orioles in four games effectively killing any chance the O's had of making the playoffs. Are the Yankees next? Probably.
Here are the lineups:
RAYS Joyce DH Myers RF DeJesus LF Longoria 3B Zobrist 2B Loney 1B Lobaton C Fuld CF Escobar SS
Matt Moore is starting for the Rays.
YANKEES Ichiro CF Rodriguez DH Cano 2B Soriano LF Reynolds 1B Nunez 3B Wells RF Ryan SS Stewart C
Hiroki Kuroda is starting for the Yanks.
In case you didn't hear the news, it was supposed to be Mariano Rivera Bobblehead night but it seems the trucks were late getting to the Stadium so the Stadium's staff had to hand out vouchers to the first 18,000 people who will now have to stick around until the end of the game even if it's 20-3 Rays in order to pick up the doll as they exit the ballpark.
This season is just ridiculously amusing, isn't it? In a sick and twisted way of course.
