Quick hit: Yanks still winning despite big guys' slumps

Here's a pretty amazing snapshot. Chad Jennings of the Lohud Yankees blog posted the Yankees' slash lines over the last seven games. Keep in mind that the team has actually won six out of the seven:

CF Brett Gardner .520/.556/.840 2B Robinson Cano .120/.267/.240 1B Mark Teixeira .185/.267/.556 DH Travis Hafner .222/.300/.556 3B Kevin Youkilis .211/.250/.368 LF Vernon Wells .130/.167/.130 RF Ichiro Suzuki .250/.348/.250 SS Jayson Nix .353/.421/.412 C Chris Stewart .357/.471/.357

The guys you expect to not do so well, Nix and Stewart, have been pretty great over the past week and the guys you would expect to hit the ball with regularity, like Cano, have been abysmal. In fact, Cano is batting just .121/.275/.212 with only one extra base hit in his last 10 games.

And it's not just bad luck for Cano, he has also looked pretty awful at the plate - especially because he's swinging at pitches way out of the zone. Like MJ wrote yesterday, it could be a combo of bad luck and frustration for Cano but this trend of winning by the skin of their teeth probably won't last and the Yankees will need guys like Cano, Teixeira and Hafner to step it up.
